Chief Tony Pustizzi
Chief Tony Pustizzi began his career with the Coral Springs Police Department in 1988. He served as both a patrol officer and a detective in the criminal investigations division until he was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1995. During his tenure as sergeant, he supervised a wide variety of units within the agency including patrol, field training, homicide and special victims.
In 2002, he was promoted to the rank of captain. As such, he served as the criminal investigations unit commander where he oversaw both general and special investigations, the youth liaison unit, crime scene investigations, and vice, intelligence and narcotics.
Chief Pustizzi was selected to the SWAT team in1990. He served as SWAT commander from 1997 through 2005 when he retired from the team.
Upon his promotion to deputy chief in 2005, he spent the next seven years overseeing both the operations and administration divisions. In 2012, he was sworn in as chief of police. He also served as the city’s interim city manager. He ultimately retired in March 2018 as both chief of police and deputy city manager.
Upon the removal of the sitting sheriff in January of this year, the governor of the state of Florida appointed Gregory Tony sheriff of Broward County. Sheriff Tony subsequently called upon Chief Pustizzi to serve as his special counsel during the transition of the sheriff’s office.
Chief Pustizzi earned his bachelor’s degree in criminology and law from the University of Florida, and his master’s degree in public administration from Florida Atlantic University. Additionally, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development course, the Southern Police Institute Command Officers course, and the Center for Creative Leadership.
Chief Pustizzi has served as State President for the Florida Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates, the chair for the National Benchmark Cities Chief’s Association, an executive board member of the South Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program, and an executive board member of the Broward County Chiefs of Police Association. He is a long-standing member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Florida Police Chief’s Association and the National Tactical Officer’s Association.
